in-law n. 사돈

'처가집 식구들 혹은 시집 식구들'을 가리켜 한 단어로 in-laws라고 한다.

 

즉 I have my husband's sister and her husband coming over tonight.이란 문장은

 

I have two in-laws coming over tonight.으로 간단히 말할 수 있다.

 

물론, 한 사람씩 가리켜

 

mother-in-law(시어머니, 장모),

 

father-in-law(시아버지, 장인),

 

brother-in-law(처남, 매형 등),

 

sister-in-law(처제, 올케 등) 등으로도 말할 수 있다
